Elizabeth Manor, formerly known as the Prescott Inn, is a turn of the century Victorian home. It was built in 1894, shortly after the devastating Great Fire of 1892 that destroyed much of Downtown St. John’s.
Elizabeth Manor was awarded the prestigious Southcott Award for heritage restoration. The Southcott Award is a program which honours excellence in the preservation of the architectural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador. Developed in 1984, the Southcott Award is presented annually to buildings 50 years or older, that have been restored to reflect the authentic character of the original design.
The Prescott Inn was well known as the first bed and breakfast in Downtown St. John’s. In operation for almost 20 years, this historic home has hosted many people from all over the world. With a complete restoration in 2004, this established bed and breakfast is now under new ownership and has been re-named the Elizabeth Manor.
Each room has been carefully refurbished. The upgrades have included the addition of full sized Jacuzzi baths, elegant four-postered and old fashioned sleigh beds, new bedding and drapery, new ensuite bathrooms and antique furniture.
